Exam structure

The DELE A2 is divided into two test groups, according to the official Instituto Cervantes format (in effect since February 2020):

• Group 1 — Comprehension tests: reading comprehension (60 min, 25 questions) + listening comprehension (40 min, 25 questions).
• Group 2 — Expression and interaction tests: written expression and interaction (45 min, 2 tasks) + spoken expression and interaction (12 min exam + 12 min preparation, 3 tasks).

Each group is scored out of 50 points. To pass, you need at least 30 points in each group (60%). The final result is PASS or FAIL.

Test 1 — Reading comprehension (60 min)

4 tasks, 25 questions:

• Task 1: 1 long text (~150 words) about a person or everyday situation + 5 multiple-choice questions.
• Task 2: 8 short notices or ads. Identify the key information in each.
• Task 3: 3 short personal texts. Identify which text contains specific information.
• Task 4: 1 longer text + 6 detailed comprehension questions.

Test 2 — Listening (40 min)

4 tasks, 25 questions. Each audio is played twice.

• Task 1: 6 short conversations with three picture options.
• Task 2: 6 single-speaker messages (notice, reminder, news).
• Task 3: 1 longer monologue + 6 questions in order.
• Task 4: 7 short announcements to match with 11 statements (3 distractors).

Test 3 — Writing (45 min)

2 tasks:

• Task 1: reply to a received message. 60–70 words.
• Task 2: write an email or note based on a notice. 70–80 words. Choose between two prompts.

Test 4 — Speaking (12 + 12 min)

3 tasks. 12 minutes to prepare, 12 minutes of conversation.

• Task 1: 2–3 minute monologue about a personal topic.
• Task 2: 1–2 minute description of a photograph.
• Task 3: 1–2 minute conversation with the examiner about the photo.

Scoring

• Each group is worth 50 points.
• Total exam is worth 100 points.
• To pass: 30/50 in each group.
• Result is PASS or FAIL; no numerical score is given to the candidate.

Total time and breaks

The full exam takes about 3 hours, split between a morning session (reading + listening + writing) and a separately scheduled oral interview, usually the same day or the next.
